The post below...

I just love the layout just below this post!  It is our Layout of the Week brought to you by Timi Forrest.  She is so creative!!  I always love to see what she brings into the store.  I almost hated to blog because I knew it would push the previous post down.  If you haven't seen it, scroll down, it'll inspire you

It has been such a peaceful day!  The air is crisp and beautiful.  Started the day out early, I teach my daughters 5th grade Sunday school class at our Church.  They are a fun bunch of girls!  We left from church and hit the water.  Something we haven't done since the hurricane.  Way to much debris floating around to try that for awhile.  I'm so glad that we got to today.  Flying across the ocean at 80 - 90 mph, what a thrill!!  Especially when the hubby lets me drive~ wha hoooo!!  I was diappointed to see The Kemah Boardwalk so much distruction there!  The boardwalk was completely gone.  They now have two of the resturants back open....at least it's a start.

Okay, I'm rambling!  What I really sat down to tell you is that, tomorrow Dusty, another one of our extremely creative designers, will be at the creative bar for Make N Take Monday.  I just loVe the make n take she has for this week!  I wish I had a picture to show you.  We have been busy once again this week and just haven't stopped long enough to take the picture!  So sorry  We would love for you to join us from 10:00 - 2:00.  Of course it's come and go and still only cost $1.  What a bargin!!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Layout of the week - brought to you by Timi Forrest

Img_0207 Simply BEAUTIFUL.  These are not usually words said about a layout that features a boy!  But for this one...that is the truth.  Timi has done such a wonderful job on this layout.  There are techniques used that are so innovative.  The picture is printed from her computer on the Paintable Prima paper and then sanded and inked on the edges.  The title on the side is stamps from Heidi Swapp and the Tim Holtz distress ink (broken china color).  The other paper is Heidi.  As usual, all the materials will be by the front door on the shelf.  Come get yours and make this beautiful layout for your collection.  Timi says you really don't even have to have the absolute best picture to make this technique work well.  With all the movement going on in the Paintable paper, it accents any picture perfectly.

Coolest Ever!!

I just wanted to do a quick post to tell you about the coolest frames ever!!  We received them yesterday.

Magneticpagefile

They come in Black, Espresso, or Antique White.  The pattern background is a magnet!  The frames come in 13 x 13 or 9 x 9.  You can display your scrapbook pages!!  Isn't that terrific?!  Instead of putting those very hard worked on pages in a scrapbook for hardly anyone to see, you can display them in these beautiful frames!

The best part....the 13 x 13 retails for $23.95.  What a great price!!

We have 3 left in the store for purchase now and another order on the way.  This will make a great Christmas present!!   Don't live in the area?  No problem, just give us a call and we'll ship it to you.

The designers have been busy preparing for the next SNL on November 9.  The theme for the night is Christmas.  I always love seeing what they come up with!  I must say, we do have the most creative Designers ever!  I have been told that by many!!  They always amaze me with what they come up with, YuMmY!!  The line up for the next SNL is Karen Twymon, Carrie Scheldon, Jessica Colby, Dusty McRae, Beverly Harrison and Timi Forrest.  We only have a few seats left if you'd like to get in on this one.  This will be our last SNL for the year.  We will start up again in January 2009.

Christmas Layout of the Week

Our Christmas lines have arrived and are in place here in the "Pink Store".  What a great time to have our layout of the week be Christmas-themed.  Come see Dusty's great layout.  It uses a Christmas tree die cut from Bazzill and some of the May Arts fluffy chenille ribbon.  The Prima flowers are perfect and the whole thing has such a home-y warm feel.  Use this layout as a kick-start for your Christmas album this year.  All the supplies to make it will be, as usual, right by the front door.

We are getting ready for a great weekend at By Design.  The Mother/Daughter crop is tomorrow (Sat) from 10 til 6.  And our SNL will be Sunday from 3 to 6.  There are a few spots left for each.  It's not too late.  Bring your daughter to the crop, or grab a friend for the class. Just give us a call in the morning.

Have a great weekend,

Cheryl

New Arrivals!!

We have had boxes, boxes and MORE boxes this week!  So many new things coming in!

Here's a run down of all the new goodies that have arrived:

The newest of Tim Holtz products

My Minds Eye Laundry line.  This line rocks!!  Glittery, embossed, all the coordinating pieces in one place, it really takes the guess work out of it all.  You've go to come check it out!

Some new goodness from Creative Imaginations (really cool Christmas and Snow papers and embellishments)

Making Memories, awesome!!

Some way cool stuff from Prima, of course they never disappoint us!

The newest line from Basic Grey

New goodies from Maya Road

Doodlebug........Okay, I know I'm missing something.  I should have made a note  You'll just have to come in and check it all out for yourself!

One another note, I finalized some really cool details today for an upcoming class.  Janet Hopkins will be joining us again to teach classes.  I had the awesome opportunity to participate in the preview day for Creative Escape back in June.  I took the class that she was suppose to teach at Creative Escape in September 2008.  Unfortunately, due to timing issues, she had to cut some things from the original version.  Don't get me wrong, the class was still fabulous in September, however the class we took in June contained two of my favorite techniques that she taught.  She has agreed to come to By Design to teach the original "uncut" version!!  I am beyond excited!  I mentioned the possibility of this with a few ladies at the Creative Escape.  So nows your chance if you'd like to attend.  If you'll post a comment or email me I'll make sure you make it into the class before we start the sign up process.  Janet will teach at the store November 15, 2008.  The first class will begin at 10:00.

We have two exciting things going on at the store this weekend!  A Mother/Daughter crop on Saturday from 10 - 6 and SNL (Sunday Night Layouts) Sunday from 3- 6.  I'm off to gather my things for the Mother/Daughter Crop.  Nothing better than cropping with your daughter!  I cherish the times....

Public Service Accouncement from BDSB

This post has really nothing to do with By Design, or even scrapbooking for that matter.  This message is about being registered to vote.   The deadline for being registered is 30 days before an election which is Monday, October 6.  Those of you that have been displaced by the hurricane can vote by mail or at an Early Voting location.   Voter Registration is handled through the Tax Assessor's office for each county.  Please call if you are not for certain about your registration status.

Galveston County - League City Branch - 174 Calder Road Rm 149, 77573 - (281) 316-8732

Harris County - Paul Bettencourt - 713-368-2200

Brazoria County - Elections Office - 281-756-1373/ Voter Registration - 281-756-1131

Call the county where you live and check your status.  If you need a ballot by mail, you can request that too. The Early Voting locations are different depending on what county you live in.  The ones that I know of are: Galveston Co. (listed above), Harris Co., (courthouse on Diana Lane off El Camino Real), and Brazoria Co. (JP's office at Grand and Pear).

I am the Early Voting election judge for Pearland for the last 8 years and I HATE telling people that they cannot vote in an election because they have moved and did not re-register or have never registered at all.  Do not trust the fact that you did it when you changed your license unless you have received a registration card.  You can only vote where you live.  It is such a privilege to be able to voice our opinions with elections and for someone to not be able to do that because maybe registering has slipped their mind just grieves me.

This will be an interesting election and I will be doing it for 13 hours a day for 2 weeks starting Oct.20 until Oct.31.   Pray for me and for our country.

I am Cheryl Collins, and I approve this message......

A "Jessica" inspired Monday MNT

Well, it's the end of the week and we are putting together the MNT for Monday.  It was created by our own MIA, Jessica Colby.  She was here last Saturday for the Scrap Pink crop and got a brillliant idea.  She created a few MNT ideas and samples and then the kits that go with them.  Can you believe that she wondered if it would hurt the feelings of any of the other MNT creators?!  We laughed....

Here is a picture of the layout including the MNT for this week. Img_0140_2  Dusty will be doing the demo.  This layout is one Jessica had an idea for from the moment she saw the paper.  It is a home-y style paper from October Afternoon that screamed bluebonnets to Jess.(And isn't that sweet because she's not even from Texas!!) The layout features the "famous", Owen. The MNT is the Journaling piece on the top right side.

Before I go I want to remind you all of TWO EVENTS we have coming up.  October 12 is our SNL (Sunday night layouts) Class.  For $40 you will leave with 6 (yes 6!) finished pages created and taught by 6 different designers.  Also our Holiday Affair MNT Event is filling up fast.  It will be on October 25 and include 3 MNTs and prizes.  Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be the focus of day.  The ticket for doing all three of the Make N Takes is only $5.  There is also a crop-til-you-drop offered for $20.  Spaces are limited for each.

See you soon,

Cheryl

Best news ever!!

I just received news from Beverly, she is in remission!!  She went to the doctor yesterday for her last treatment and some important results from test.  Remission!  God is so good.  Our prayers have been answered.

I have been so amazed by Beverly through all of this.  She has handled it all with such belief that God would heal her and we have been believing that as well.  Beverly, you are a remarkable woman!

This past weekend was extra special because of Beverly.  She and her sister Becky did an outstanding job of planning our "Scrap Pink Crop" weekend.  The decorations, the food, the excitement, it was all just perfect!  She even designed the most adorable tee shirt to sell for the cause. We still have a few of those left if you'd like to purchase one.  I'll try to get them in the on line store this week as well.  Proceeds from the sale of the shirts of course will still go to the cause.   I'm anxious to see how much we raised this weekend!  This is our second year doing the Scrap Pink crop for the cure, and it just gets better each year!  I can't wait to start planning the next one!  Breast cancer, and cancer in general is something that touches each of us at some time.  Whether it be a friend, loved one or personally.  My diligent prayer is that a cure will be found to end it all.

On a side note, we have added a lot of new things to the calendar in the past week.  Two SNL's, Mother/Daughter crop, A Holiday Affair with an all day crop....it makes me tired just reading it all!!  You can sign up on line or give us a call at the store for any of these.  I looked yesterday and all spaces are filling up quickly!  We only have a few tickets left for the Holiday Affair.  (Once these are gone we will not add more) Just a little FYI there....

I hope you have a fabulous Tuesday!  I'm still full of excitement from hearing the good news from Beverly this morning!  What a great way to start the day!  Remission....what a great word!!

MNT Monday details

It seems like this week has flown by!  So many of us were stir-crazy and ready to get out of the house (and maybe into the AIR CONDITIONING).  The store has been busy and an exciting place.  We were able to host our Scrap Pink breast cancer fund raiser and it was a big success.  It is a crop-til-you-drop affair and I am still here at 1 am Sunday!  What fun!! When we get a clear head (and a little sleep), we will let you know the results of the hard work that Beverly Harrison and her team have put in towards this great cause.  On that same note, you will want to say a prayer for her on Monday.  Beverly goes for her last treatment and gets some very important results from the doctors then too.  We love Beverly and always appreciate her wit and wisdom.  Our prayers are for the Great Physician to wrap His healing hands around her and make her completely well.

I will be doing the MNT this week.  It is a variation on a piece of art I saw at a friend's house one day.  Img_0159_2 The painting and stamping is done and then we will die cut the piece and lift up part of it with pop-dots.  Come see.  I'm anxious to show you the punches that make the swirl-y designs on the layout and the MNT portion of the page.  There are so many design ideas for them.  The layout is for one page this time, but the kit has some extra paper for you to create another.

See you Monday...

Cheryl
